One quick thing. I am not John, this is Jim and I am also here watching the draft with John. John needed to step out to pick up Reese's for Coldstone. So I will blog the first few picks. Don't tell John. I'm sure he will give you his thoughts on them when he returns from Costco. First thing, it is just before the start of the draft and the Chargers still have the first pick, despite Eli Manning's vow to sit out the year and reenter the draft next year. Reports have the Chargers dead-set on keeping the pick at this point and taking Manning. There is way too much testosterone flowing around San Diego right now and they need to take a step back and realize what they would be doing if they took him. I've heard John Clayton saying that they want at least the same as they received for trading the pick that became Mike Vick, because they will lose face if they don't. The last two times this has happened in the NFL, it hasn't worked well for the team that did it. In 1983, Elway said he wouldn't go to Baltimore, and he didn't. They were forced to deal him to Denver. Bo Jackson sat out a year after the Bucs took him, in 1986. He did, he played baseball. Playing Chicken with millions of dollars on the line is INSANE. Deal the pick, get what you can for it, because you lose more face if you have the guy you want sits out so as to no play for you. You get no value from the pick if it is essentially vacated. Please, Chargers, don't do something stupid to show what kind of men you are and how you won't be pushed around. Stop before it is too late. Back away, slowly, slowly.
